Festival Transmusicale 2008, mixed reality event ; Rennes, France
This was an invitation through Secondlife by a real life festival organiser - Hugobiwan.
A two way camera was set up, linked from real life festival site in Rennes, through internet connection to Secondlife virtual world platform.
Visitors in real life Rennes could talk through a microphone to the avatar in Secondlife.
Swannjie was invited to give a talk on Digital Guqin Museum and do a life demo of the Instrument.
An installation was set up in Secondlife to show the history of Guqin, the playing positions, and the instrument.
Some friends from Secondlife came to the event in Secondlife, as you could see the avatars in the screenshot below.
Live voice was used.
It was interesting, and took quite a few hours to set up. Everything must be synchronised with precision otherwise the event would not work.
There were reports in local newspaper, a screenshot of Swannjie the avatar playing the guqin.
It was an interesting possibility to test out and was quite successful.
In setting up the virtual world scene, we must have model making ability, lighting, design, texture, it is in short a kind of skin painting over the basic building modules to make a simulation of a real 3d space.
