I visit and renew myself with Virtual World of SecondLife, since 2007, what is new?
1// real time web page as ShareMedia in SL, this means, everyone could share in live viewing of information as if we were sitting together side by side.  Very convenient.
2// below are some "sister cities" - in SL, it is true, we could make global contacts quite easily.  I think it is useful for people who already know the real cities, this would be equivalent to making visual phone calls in 3d... nothing much new here, it has always been possible even in 2007
3// i hear talk about oculus rift.  The 3d glasses.  Have not tried it yet
4// sl art, always the misty, dreamy sims are the most appreciated.  Places where in real life is not possible, or in real life not as charming.  Such as Hobo, Crack houses... this type of playful sims.
5// Japanese creators has really gd sims, as usual.  Highly detailed, fine arts crafts shared by all.  I appreciate this so much.  See some samples below.

Some comments:  resolution is low., not bad.

One of the school which has a very impressive high quality presence in Virtual World of Secondlife.

The China Sim has many many visitors and was publicsied and blogged v often.  We always see visitors, very creative artistic visitors.  At the sim, there is not much scripted events, just a misty, cloudy, ambiance place where people like to come.  Highly successful artistic sim.
